The Maryland Tax Education
Foundation (MTEF) is a Maryland corporation established in 1998
to help the public understand tax and expenditure policies of
State and local government in Maryland. Sustained operations
of the foundation will commence with completion of appointments
to the Board of Directors and receipt of sufficient donations
to finance research, analysis, and dissemination of information
on taxation and spending. Contributions to MTEF are tax deductible
to the extent allowed by law for 501(c)(3) organizations. MTEF's charter provides that:
The purposes of the Corporation
are exclusively charitable, educational and nonprofit as defined
under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986,
as amended, (or any corresponding provisions of any future United
States Internal Revenue Laws or Regulations thereunder, hereinafter
collectively referred to as the Internal Revenue Code) as follows:
To be an institution of learning
that conducts, sponsors and contributes to education and research
on facts, methods and principles of taxation and government spending,
all of which shall be done within the meaning of Section 502(c)(3)
of the Internal Revenue Code, and to undertake other projects,
programs and activities not inconsistent with Section 501(c)(3)
of the Internal Revenue Code and applicable state law, including
the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as
exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code, as the need to do so presents itself in the opinion
of the Board of Directors.
We invite you to make a tax-deductible
contribution to this important cause. Contributions are used
for researching Marylnd tax issues, sponsoring eduational progams,
and distributing tax education information. Copies of our IRS
approval letter and annual report are available upon request.
